The Puli Township launched a long stay program several years ago, inviting foreigners to live in Puli after retirement. And with the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the Nantou residents are once again calling for the Japanese citizens to join their beautiful town.

Riding a motorcycle, this retired engineer from Japan feels very comfortable in Puli.

He came 5 or 6 years ago and loves painting.

Nantou's natural scenery is a tourist attraction.

After helping with the construction of National Highway 6, he decided to retire and live in Nantou's Puli by himself.

Currently there are more than a dozen Japanese living in Puli.

They are living, painting, and practicing calligraphy as well as participating in other cultural and creative activities.

After living in Spain and Canada, this location is special because of pure nature which is rapidly disappearing in Japan.

The Puli Mayor said that now more than ever before, Puli has made progress in terms of the overall environment and he believes that local culture and natural scenery is the main reason attracting Japanese people.

To further attract Japanese earthquake victims to a long stay program, the mayor said more hostels have been added to provide a more comfortable and pleasant living environment.
