MORE SPOTS FOR BRILLIANT STAR PROGRAM
With more vocational schools joining the Brilliant Star Program, which evaluates one's academic performance over the score of the college entrance exam, the Ministry of Education has made a recent announcement to up the enrollment rate starting next year.
The new measure will offer an additional 900 spots, or a total of close to 2,000 openings for students.
3 years ago, Tsai Chun-chou was not able to get into a top high school because he was not prepared for the basic competence test.
However, at the current private Kai Nan Vocational High school, Tsai studied hard to be ranked as the top two students in all midterms, thus he was recommended by his school to the Brilliant Star Program.
Another student, Huang Chiu-hwa at the same school in the MIS Department, always ranked number one in all tests and owns 17 certifications, who estimated his chance of gaining admission to National Taiwan University of Science and technology should be high.
Kai Nan Vocational School Principle Lin Ben-po supports the Brilliant Star Program and suggests it to increase the number of slots.
According to the Ministry of Education, the program for vocational school students will be expanded from 1,050 students to 1,982 students, almost doubling the numbers while the interview process will be cancelled.
However, the increase in number is due to the increase in the number participating high schools to 17 more, which takes up 63% of the slots.
In order to prevent the situation of college Brilliant Star Program where many slots are unfilled, a total of 6 private schools have agreed to lower tuition to public school level, while some would offer scholarship to attract more talented students.
