Colleges around the island have accepted close to 6,800 students out of 18,000 hopefuls this year, under the Ministry of Education's Stars Program, which has helped in minimizing the gap between students from the cities and suburbs.

National San-Chung Senior High School student, Lin Yi-rong is jumping for joy because,

although he scored a humble 65 points on the College Entrance Exam, he still managed to get accepted into the National Taiwan University Department of Social Work based on his good grades in high school.

Besides Lin, 33 students from the National San-Chung Senior High School also gained admission to public universities, while 20 were accepted into private institutions.

The admitted rate of Lin's graduating year was 45%, a great outcome for the community high school.

Overall, from the 18,000 prospective students this year, 6,790 students were admitted at a rate of 36.45%.

Several community high schools initially exhibited concern that the acceptance threshold would be higher this year because of the new student recommendation program and affect the chances of students being admitted.

Hosting National Chung Cheng University indicated that based on the numbers this year, community high schools performed better than municipal high schools, meaning the program's goal has been accomplished.
