BETTER SERVICE FOR "SAVE FOR EDUCATION"
Since 2008, the Ministry of Education's "Save For Education" website has raised more than 76 million NT dollars for financially disadvantaged children, and has assisted over 5,200 cases. With the teachers currently determining who should receive the financial help, they are calling to the government to hire professional personnel to do the job instead, to offer a more thorough and flawless service to those in need.
The Hulu Elementary School in Taipei is to have the graduation trip in mid-April.
Some financially disadvantaged children are unable to afford the trip.
So the school describes the story on the "Save For Education" website and hopes to get some donations to support the children's trip.
Since 2008, more than 5,200 cases throughout Taiwan have been assisted via this platform, which raised over 76 million NTD.
However, according to Ministry of Education, the current Charity Donations Destined For Social Welfare Funds Implementation Regulations specify that the carryback period of the funds left over can only be extended to three years at maximum, or the account will be cleared.
While teachers approve the benefits of the program, they complain about the stress from having to decide which children need help, adding that it would be the best if each school would have on-campus social service workers in the future, as they can provide professional service to children and maximize the resources.
