HELP THE VICTIMS TODAY
The crisis is far from over, and for those who are looking for ways to lend a helping hand, there are various organizations on the island that have started fundraising activities already. The three major convenience store chains are also accepting donations from the public, and Japanese exchange students in Taiwan are doing whatever they can to contribute during this critical time.
Japanese students that are currently studying Chinese at National Taiwan Normal University took part in a blessing event on Tuesday.
Many of them expressed deep sorrow, and said that they have been asking themselves what they can do to help.
One donated a cash prize she had won in a competition, while others set up a booth outside the library to fold origami cranes.
A number of local students sat down to learn how to fold the cranes and prayed for Japan.
The completed cranes will be auctioned off at Shida Night Market this Friday, and anyone that donates funds will also receive a paper crane.
Civic groups, including the International Red Cross and United Way, and three major convenience store chains are also accepting donations.
