WORLD'S FIRST TRIANGULAR-STRUCTURED MUSEUM TO BE BUILT IN TAICHUNG
The world's first triangular-structured art museum, designed by acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is to be constructed in Taichung's Asia University. And a break-ground ceremony was held earlier this week with Vice-President Vincent Siew, Taichung Mayor Jason Hu and the architect himself in attendance.
The construction ceremony of the Art Museum in Asia University was environmental-friendly, where trees were planted to symbolize hope.
Tadao Ando's Triangular Art Museum in Asia University is the only one in Taiwanese campus as well as the only one in the world.
Taiwan's standard of as-cast-finish concrete wall is inferior than that of Japan and the construction bidders even built a two-story wall as sample.
The first two biddings ended with no winners. Only until the third bidding some bidders passed the standard test.
The three-floor Asia University Art Museum consists of three regular triangles.
All the spaces and windows will be presented in the form of triangles.
The Japanese architect says it's a difficult but revolutionary project, adding that there's no building in the world with a triangular structure. This design is also the first of its kind in the world.
If it is completed successfully, it would be a huge boost to Taiwan's construction industry and the most important work of Ando in in Taiwan.
