A research team of the National Taiwan University has found that a protein extracted from red marine algae is highly effective in treating allergic asthma without side effects. The team is currently applying for patent rights for their discovery, and clinical trials are expected to start in two to three years.

Many people would start to sneeze, as the temperature gets colder, especially there are more children who are suffering from asthma, who are taking mostly steroid based medications for fast relief, however, not for improving the immune system.

National Taiwan University recently found out that, the protein that is extracted from red sea algae can lower the histamine level and lower the chances of respiratory cell infection.

There are around 3,000 types of red algae, including the kind that are used in many Chinese dishes that is called hair algae.

NTU research team said that, though preliminary test on toxins are still being performed,

the extracted protein should be safe for humans for it would adjust the human immune system to better one's allergic symptoms, which is not suppressing it like steroid based medication would.

Coupled with other treatment, it is possible for a person to be cured of allergy all together.

The animal testing stage has been completed and the patent for Taiwan and the U.S. has been filed.

It is hoped that, in two year, human testing can begin and in the future, using the new discovery to treat tumors or other infectious disease treatment.
