Renowned lung transplant surgeon Lee Yung-chie passed away at the end of last year after a grueling battle with lymphoma. He was 62. For the past few decades, he had dedicated himself to the treatment of lung cancer. Here on CTS, let's take a look back at the life of a doctor who treats the patients like his own family.

Last August, National Taiwan University Hospital Department of Surgery Chairman Lee Yung-chie attended the birthday celebrations of a patient he had treated 15 years earlier.

Lee was undergoing chemotherapy at the time, and attended the festivities wearing a hat.

It had been over a decade since Lee performed National Taiwan University Hospital's first lung transplant, and he attended the press conference and wrote an essay on the history of lung transplant surgeries in Taiwan despite his condition.

Lee was first diagnosed with lymphoma in July 2009.

Although he initially responded well to chemotherapy, his condition took a turn for the worse last February.

In November, tests revealed that the lymphoma had spread to his lungs, and he passed away shortly before the new year.

Mr. Chen says that he will always be grateful to Dr. Lee for saving his daughter's life, while Ms. Chen, who is Asia's longest-living lung transplant patient, said that she will always owe a debt to Dr. Lee.

Over the years, Dr. Lee has treated Sun Yueh, the daughter of Shih Ming-teh, and Lin Chih-ling.

He was one of Taiwan's leading lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and lung transplant surgeons, and was not only a renowned physician, but a good physician.
