A WIZARD OF MACHINERY
A female student at a vocational school in Taitung was recently admitted to the Department of Marine Engineering at the National Kaohsiung Marine University.
And that hardly came as a surprise to her classmates, who have long admired her talent and passion for machinery.
Still a teenager, the girl has already acquired three technical licenses, including one for excavator operation.
In general, excavators are operated by men, but the person sitting behind the wheel today is a girl, named Fan Chia-yu.
Fan is currently a junior in the National Taitung University agricultural machinery department, and is the only one in her class to hold a national license to operate excavators.
In addition, she's able to repair heavy agricultural machinery just like the boys in her class and has a certification in two categories of machine repair.
In total, Miss Fan holds three national licenses.
Applying through the star student recommendation track this year, Fan, who ranked first in five semesters in college and holds three licenses, successfully gained admission into her top choice - the National Kaohsiung Marine University.
Ecstatic about the admission, Fan says her licenses must have given her plus points during the application.
With a license to operate and repair heavy machinery, Fan will never have to worry about being jobless.
