BREAKTHROUGH IN RAISING TAIWAN GROUPER
The National Kaohsiung Marine University's research team has recently developed a new method which successfully raises the survival rate of Taiwan grouper, a kind of fish which is vulnerable to diseases and changes of weather.
Taiwan grouper is one of the high-end food ingredients on banquets.
Southwestern coast of Taiwan is an important grouper farm area with major farms located in Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung.
The total annual production volume tops the world.
But the 88 flooding and the flood disaster happened in September 19th last year severely damaged the farms and caused huge financial losses.
Thanks to the newly developed drawer type feeding system, groupers are now free from the threats of natural disasters and infection from viral diseases.
The huge transparent tanks are the new home of grouper fish.
The filter system saves water and space.
To provide groupers the best environment, the water temperatures are kept at 22 to 28 degrees Celsius.
Since the fish are raised outdoor and are susceptible to the weather impact, the system excludes such interference and hazards from parasites and viruses, successfully raising the survival rate of the fish.
