The research team from the National Cheng Kung University has successfully fired a hybrid rocket into the Pingtung sky, reaching 8 kilometers in altitude. This marks Taiwan's first rocket that is entirely developed by an academic institute.

Finally, on the east coast of Pingtung it is test fired.

The rocket was successfully launched in less than a few seconds, going up into the clouds.

It was the culmination of nearly 10 years of research by National Cheng Kung University as it flew to an altitude of 8km and the entire 90-second trip had a GPS communication system on its return flight path.

All these components such as fuel and the testing platform were all built by the university's research and development team.

Synthetic rubber and nitrous oxide are mixed for the fuel, making it safer and more environmentally friendly with no toxic emissions after combustion, which is also world setting technology.

However, there seems to be a limit on the academic community's ability to build rockets, and in the end, it is hoped that it can work with the Ministry of National Defense to promote its aerospace science program.

Next, the team will develop a hybrid rocket that can achieve an altitude of 100 km, which is estimated to take 3 to 5 years to achieve.
