2011 PINGSI LANTERN FESTIVAL KICKS OFF
The 15th day of the Lunar New Year is the Lantern Festival, when people gather in Pingsi of New Taipei City, and write down their wishes on the lanterns by sending them into the night sky. And the 2011 Pingsi Sky Lantern Festival has kicked off last Saturday, with over 100,000 festival goers releasing around 2,000 sky lanterns. President Ma Ying-jeou also attended the ceremony, and in our following report, let's find out what President Ma hoped for this year.
Numerous sky lanterns were released into the sky and lit up the night sky of Pingshi.
These sky lanterns carried many wishes, which people hope to come true in the new year.
President Ma also wrotes his wishes on the lantern.
He was praying that the country could florish and people live in peace and God bless Taiwan.
Entertainer Lotus Wang, whose popularity skyrocketed recently for her single "Bo Beep" also performed at the event, hoping that the wishes written on the 2,000 sky lanterns would come true in the new year.
