As fears spread over radiation-tainted food from Japan, the College of Nuclear Science at the National Tsing Hua University is now flooded with requests from consumers to inspect the Japanese food products they've already bought. And although the service carries a lofty price tag of 2,000 NT dollars for each item, incoming requests still continue to increase.

A pack of baby formula is put along with it's shipment packaging into a lead-based radiation inspection device to check forany traces of radiation contamination.

Worried about possible contamination, Taiwanese consumers are paying to have their unopened imported packages that contain such items as baby formula and snacks to the Tsing Hua University Atomic Science Center for inspection.

Originally intended only for the radiation inspection of industrial materials, the center has been receiving calls from concerned citizens to inspect various imported items from Japan.

Although to have each item inspected costs 2 thousand NT dollars, call requests and sent packages have been nonstop.

In addition to product inspection, the Atomic Science Center is also inspecting for radiation on employees of companies in the Hsinchu Science Park who returned from Japan.

Fortunately no person or imported product has been found to have radiation contamination.

Those that are found to contain radiation contamination will be immediately sent to the Atomic Energy Council or the Radiation Protection Association for decontamination process.
