To assure the food safety for consumers, Taipei City's Department of Health has announced that it will start to conduct random inspections on Japan imported products in supermarkets. Products with unsafe level of radioactive contamination will be pulled off the shelf.

In the wake of the nuclear meltdown disaster in Japan the leakage of radioactive substances, the Taipei Department of Health has started to conduct inspections on Japanese imported products.

The salmon caviar from Hokkaido passed the inspection with radiation levels below the hazardous mark.

The DOH similarly checks on vegetables and fruits from Japan.

Green apples, cabbage, and other vegetables must all fall under 0.2 micro Seavers.

The DOH says that if any products are found to contain radiation levels that surpass the standard mark, they will be pulled from the shelves immediately.

Supermarket owners say that following the massive quake in Japan, imported products from ground zero are prohibited from entering Taiwan market.

As well, several distributors have also decreased the flow of fresh produce and goods from disaster areas.

The DOH says that it will be regularly conducting inspections to help consumers shop with more confidence.
