TAIPEI CITY CONDUCTS NUCLEAR CRISIS DRILL
A nuclear crisis drill was conducted on Thursday in Taipei City under the supervision of Mayor Hau Lung-bin, who said the goal of this exercise is to identify areas for improvement in the existing disaster response process, and two more large-scale drills in the city have already been scheduled for next month.
During the nuclear disaster drill held at Neihu's Incineration Plant, Taipei City's disaster response and command centers conduct radiation tests on all vehicles entering the city.
Radiation elimination is immediately conducted on vehicles found to be emitting radiation.
Individuals found to be free of radiation are directed to emergency shelters, while the Environmental Protection Administration pump and process contaminated water.
Both New Taipei City and Taipei City's respective nuclear disaster drills simulated a nuclear meltdown at New Taipei City's No. 2 nuclear power plant and New Taipei City residents fleeing to Taipei City.
Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin says that the city government is still assessing the feasibility of canceling school in the event of a nuclear disaster.
Neihu currently has 116 shelters, the largest of which has a capacity of 32,567.
