Kmt Post-election Review
Taipei mayor Hau Lung-bin on Tuesday convened his first official meeting in the city government since winning the re-election, announcing future plans for the capital, which include a joint bid with Xin Bei city to host the 2019 Asian Games. While admitting the mayoral elections had been a tough battle for the ruling party, Hau believes that the worst time has passed for the KMT.
Taipei mayor Hau Lung-bin has a big smile after defeating his rival by a large marin of 170,000 votes, a fairly satisfactory result for the KMT.
He admits that the loss of votes from swing voters may have something to do with the party's baggage as the ruling party.
However, Hau believes the recently concluded election is the beginning of KMT's comeback.
Both DPP and even Hau's own camp believe the shooting of Sean Lien on the election eve contributed 120,000 votes to the KMT candidate.
Hau declines to comment on the effect of such inident, stressing the key to his victory is that Taipei city residents are happy with his administration.
Commenting on the post-election review, Taichung mayor Jason Hu said that the local govenrment should have involved more in the central government's policy-making process. Hau said that Taipei City Government has a great interaction with the central government but he also agreed that the governments should establish a platform for better communications.
