DRILL SIMULATING DISASTERS WAS STAGED
A large-scale "rescue and relief drill" was held in the New Taipei City yesterday based on the scenario of a tsunami and consequent nuclear crisis. And the military not only mobilized chemical corps and radiation detection vehicles, but also sent out SMS tsunami warnings for the first time.
A tsunami resulting from an earthquake sweeps away cars and floods homes.
As the national military mobilizes air rescue teams and helicopters to rescue victims, the tsunami wipes out a nuclear power plant and radiation begins leaking from the reactors.
The chemical corps and radiation detection vehicles are sent out to contain the leak and monitor the situation.
The compound drill, which simulated tsunami and nuclear disasters, was the first of its kind to be held in Taiwan.
SMS warnings were sent out for the first time.
According to President Ma Ying-jeou, the central and municipal governments will jointly hold another nuclear disaster drill in New Taipei City on May 17th.
Ma also reiterated the importance of nuclear safety.
