PROTEST AGAINST 4TH NUCLEAR PLANT
After the nuclear crisis at Fukushima, residents who are opposed against the construction of No. 4 nuclear power plant have marched to the Executive Yuan, asking the government to stop the project immediately.
Protesters say, that since the No. 1, 2, and 4 nuclear power plants are located in the New Taipei City, the people in the north are the first to suffer from horrific consequences if similar disaster occurs.
Holding anti nuclear power plant banners and lilies, a group of Gong Liao of New Taipei City gathered together to protest against the use of nuclear power and against the building of a nuclear power plant.
Though the protest has been going on for more than 10 years, the construction is still on going.
Though President Ma Ying-jeou has already announced that the operation of the nuclear power plant is going to be pushed back for a year, local residents are still not satisfied, for they strongly believe it is not a safe source to generate power and the whole project should be stopped.
Those protestors sat in front of the Executive Yuan to protest while pray for the victims in Japan as they worried that they would suffer the same fate as those in Japan once the nuclear power plant number 4 starts operation.
Scholars did the calculation, with the near by nuclear power plant 1 and 2, plus the future number 4 plant, the greater Taipei area could be in high risk of a nuclear crisis.
Those in Gongliao believe that, the nuclear reactor at power plant number 4 is almost like a school project of different parts assembled together, it doesn't matter how the government promise the public of its safety, they have no faith in it.
Thus the Nuclear energy Commission promised to do a complete inspection for every procedures.
