NTC TO STEP UP FIRE SAFETY EFFORTS
In a move to prevent similar accidents from taking place in New Taipei City, Mayor Eric Chu announced yesterday that fire safety inspections will be conducted in nightclubs across the city over the next three days. And the NTC will also follow Taipei City's example to ban indoor fire shows in the future.
For the first time, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu took questions from the city council.
His first experience was not pleasant as DPP city councilor's questioning turned violent regarding the Taichung City nightclub fire that claimed nine lives.
This recent issue quickly became the main focus of questioning. Chu made a commitment, saying that in three days, the city would carry out a special investigation into fire safety.
The Taichung nightclub fire was due to a fire show as city councilors questioned why Taipei had prohibited such activities indoors while there was no such regulation in New Taipei City.
Chu stressed that New Taipei City will put a new emphasis on fire safety.
Other questioning included Taoyuan County Magistrate and environmental subjects as Chu used a soft approach to answer these questions.
