Following the swearing-in ceremony, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu paid an inspection visit to the Sanyi tribe to discuss their concerns regarding the government's plan to build public housing. Chu said the administration will further evaluate the project before coming up with a better solution.

On the second day after New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu took office, he paid a visit to the Sanyin tribe in his capacity as the city mayor.

He met with indigenous people living in the area and had a face-to-face meeting with them.

When asked whether the tribe would be relocated or torn down, Chu didn't give specific answers and only said that he needs further assessment.

Sanyin tribal residents stressed that they would accept the government's plan of either to accommodate them on the same site or other locations.

But they can't accept the fact that the government failed to take their interests into account when it is promoting public housing on a rent basis.

The government will need to solve the problem of how to accommodate indigenous people in the tribe, while the top priorities of the Sanyi tribal members are to deal with the water and electricity shortage problems, and the household registration issue for school-age children.
