The battle for mayorship of Xin Bei City continues to heat up. This time, the two main candidates crossed swords over the issue of MRT. Eric Chu, the KMT candidate, revealed his plan to cooperate with Taipei City in buidling a more comprehensive MRT network, while Tsai Ing-wen of DPP believed such an arrangement would only favor Taipei at the expense of Xin Bei residents best interests.

Like an ordinary commuter, Eric Zhu swipes in his EZ card at the Tucheng MRT station and heads off to his office in Banqiao. Eric Zhu wants to get a taste of how it feels to take the MRT.

He says that if he becomes elected, he will cooperate with Taipei city in establishing a Shulin-Wanta line, a Sanxia-Yinge line, a Xindian-Ankan line, a Minsheng-Xishi line, as well as a Danhai-Qingui line. The lines will converge with the current Taipei MRT lines in forming three major rings and three major lines.

His move will also increase the number of charter buses and push for an intelligent bus information system to make commuting more convenient for Xin Bei city residents.

However, election rival Tsai Ying-wen believes that the MRT planning authority lies with the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation and the move will not benefit Xin Bei city.

Meanwhile, Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei fighting to bring the sky lantern-themed Taiwan Pavilion back to Xin Bei City's Pinxi from the Shanghai Expo.

While Eric Zhu is in full support of the move, Tsai Ying-wen is reserving believes the area of Pinxi may not be entirely suitable, and that the move should require more consideration. As the election carries on, both sides of the competition are expressing their own ambitions, hoping to gain support from the public.
