Dangerous Billboards
The recent accident involving an electronic billboard
falling down from the ceiling at Taipei's Zhongsiao Fushing MRT station has led to some questioning the safety of these over-sized and excessive advertisements.
The electronic billboard fell from the ceiling on July 4th at 3am at the Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station in Taipei. The station was already closed at the time, so fortunately, no one was injured during the accident.
The billboard, which is one meter in length and five kilograms in weight, could have easily caused some severe damage.
As a whole, the advertisements take in about 20 million NT dollars for the Rapid Transit Corporation, however, because of this case, these kind of billboards that hang down from the ceilings are temporarily suspended until further notice.
The Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station and Taipei City Hall Station have these billboards, and in securing the public's safety, inspectors are now making sure that the parts are properly maintained.
Taipei City Councilors have requested that these electronic billboards be removed permanently, but such action may lead to legal issues.
