Tainan City Mayor Urges Passing of Bill
For the newly elected mayor of Tainan, Lai Chin-teh's first challenge is to deal with the financial issues within the city government. During the inaugural speech, Lai urges the central government to pass the bill of allocating funds as soon as possible, to ensure the future development of the area.
Witnessed by more than 100 local group representatives, Tainan City Mayor Lai Chih-teh was sworn in, announcing that the new system is up and running.
Lai's wife, who rarely makes public appearances and DPP chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen were in the attendance of the inaugural ceremony.
But since Tainan City suffers from the worst finances among the five special municipalities, Lai said during the inaugural speech that the central government should quickly complete the amendment of laws such as the Law of Subdivision of Financial Income and Expenditure to ensure local governments have enough resources for development.
After the ceremony was completed, Lai entered the mayor's office and approved the first official document, which is to appoint high-ranking officials in his administration.
This marked the beginning of the new city administration and that greater Tainan begun its historical new phase.
