DPP hopeful Tsai Ing-wen refuses to comment on TV talk show host Cheng Hung-yi's recent swearing gaffe. And on the other hand, the KMT's Xin Bei City mayor candidate, Eric Chu, says that he's not calculating it as a way to gain votes, but states that the people are waiting to see how the politicians will deal with this matter.

On Wednesday, Tsai Ing-wen visited a traditional market in Shizhi in the hopes of soliciting votes from housewives.

Several days earlier, DPP-affiliated TV talk show host Cheng Hung-yi made headlines when he addressed President Ma Ying-jeou with sexual profanity.

Many voters have been waiting to see how Tsai would respond and if she would denounce Cheng, but Tsai has refused to comment other than to say that it was a momentary incident.

Her opponent, the KMT's Eric Chu, spent the day campaigning and meeting with voters in Sanchong.

When asked whether Cheng's lack of judgment is helping his campaign, Chu said that he does not view the incident from such a perspective, but that voters can clearly see how the DPP is choosing to handle it.

How much have Cheng's words impacted the election? The answer will be revealed in two weeks.
