In Farmers' Shoes
In order to educate the students about the importance of agriculture, the Forest Elementary School has held a 5-day field trip combining farming activities and panel discussions on recent protest of farmers.
All the students are required to participate in various activities, from growing plants to raising livestock.
Early in the morning, this group of forest school students travel in a farm truck and spend a day helping farmers weed.
Without the use of herbicides they need to manually remove all the weeds.
These children who have never planted a field are very excited as they play barefoot and feel the temperature of the soil in the field.
Later, they feel back pain from this work and simply lie down to pull weeds.
This year, more farmers resisted land acquisition, also sending a petition to the president.
This Forest School is giving students the opportunity through education to learn more about current affairs and the protest of farmers on the streets.
It also uses tourism and travel to teach these students as they visit Meinung and engage in actual agricultural work.Although the work of weeding can be a bit boring, everybody is given the chance to play at the edge of the water near the canal.
This practical farming experience also gives children the important lesson that food is not easy to produce and they should take special measures to protect the agriculture industry which provides the vegetables and rice that they eat.
