Martial Arts at School
Around 400 elementary students participated in the martial arts competition in Taipei Sunday. These little martial artists say that besides acquiring the knowledge of self defense, learning martial art can also help them improve their physical health.
3rd grader Wang Chi-hsien looks quite good in his firm stance and throwing good punches.
He started practicing martial arts in first grade because he was attracted after reading comic books.
He now performs some of his abilities.
A girl student said learning martial arts can help others while also loosening up your joints and improve your health.
Many elementary schools now have martial arts clubs and students usually participate in competitions to see how well they have learned.
This year's Taipei competition saw over 400 students compete, which is three times more than last year.
Although many say they don't care about winning, some students calculate each competitor's score to see if they have a chance of winning.
Joy and disappointment is seen on everyone's face when scores come out. These young students are already starting to learn how to deal with pressure!
