TRANSPARENT PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS
With the draft amendment of the Land Administration Agent Act currently under review, the civil groups are calling the lawmakers to enforce real estate agents to list out the actual transaction price of properties, in making the housing market more transparent for buyers. They believe that it's the only way to curb real estate speculation and for the luxury tax to achieve its intended effect.
According to the Real Estate Appraisal Association of Taipei City, there is a huge discrepancy between property transaction prices and actual sale prices in popular districts.
A civic group is calling on the Legislative Yuan's Internal Administration Committee to pass a controversial clause in draft amendments to the Land Administration Act that would require the registration of sale prices in realty transactions.
The group is also calling for sale price records to be kept to make property transactions more transparent and resolve the real estate bubble issue.
At the same time, however, some are expressing concerns about privacy implications.
Ruling and opposition lawmakers are set to enter into discussions in the near future.
