The night markets in Taipei City are full of surprises. In addition to the traditional Taiwanese delicacies, you can also find cuisines from various countries. To further promote the city's excellent food to the world, the government is planning to apply for "the city of gastronomy"

International cuisines, such as Japanese, Thai, French and many more are available in Taipei City.

The city is also proud of its night markets and local delicacies.

Now the Taipei City Government plans to apply to become one of the UNESCO-recognized cities of gastronomy.

As of now, three cities in the world have won the honor.

One of them is Chengdu of Sichuan, known for its "hot and spicy" cuisine.

Director of Taipei City Office of Commerce Mr. Liu Jia-chung points out that Taipei is endowed with a diverse culinary culture

The capital city, has a long established reputation as a gourmet's paradise, boasting cuisine from every region of China, fancy dishes from five-star hotels and delicious night market snacks.

If Taipei is able to be added to the UNESCO's list of gastronomy, it would be a big boost to Taipei's international image and helps market the city's tourism industry.
