The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection has just announced that the 10 electronic heaters inspected have all met their standards. To avoid further accidents caused by improper use of these warming devices, the bureau is reminding individuals not to place it next to the bed nor use it to dry clothes.

A residence in Yilan County's Nanao Township caught fire on January 11th, killing a two-year old girl. According to the preliminary results of the investigation, the fire started when a bed sheet caught fire from a nearby electric heater.

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection recently inspected ten heaters being sold on the market, and found all of them to meet standards.

However, consumers are reminded to keep electric heaters a fair distance away from beds, and avoid using them to dry clothes.

Because heaters consume more electricity than other appliances, consumers are also urged to plug them into dedicated outlets.

When purchasing electric blankets, officials recommend the public to select products that have been certified by the BSMI.

Electric blankets should always be spread out flat and never folded over.

Blankets that come into contact with water or urine should be immediately unplugged and air-dried.

Finally, those with cardiovascular conditions and those prone to allergies should consult with a physician before using electric blankets.
