KAOHSIUNG CHINESE LANTERN FESTIVAL
With the Kaohsiung Chinese Lantern Festival set to take place on February 12th, the city government has unveiled this year's design, which is a 500-meter fireworks show surrounding the Kaohsiung harbor, along with the special lighting effects by the Love River.
The children danced to show off this years Year-of-the-rabbit lantern on their heads.
Kaohsiung has been using the head lantern to replace the hand held version for ease of moving around at the lantern festival.
The city also revealed the fireworks plan for this year, which is be taken place over the ocean. This year, the fireworks show will include a 500 meters fireworks fall, hoping to attract even more people to Kaohsiung within the 17 days period.
Kaohsiung City also went to China to promote the event, becoming the first of all cities and counties of Taiwan to do so, hoping to increase another million tourists from last years number to 9 million this year.
Besides Kaohsiung promotion, the Greater Kaohsiung City will also hold a night time event at KangShan to make it easier for people who lived further away from the harbor to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
