Taipower has released the result of the preliminary nuclear safety inspection over the three operating nuclear power plants in Taiwan.

The report shows some worrying signs, as it further confirms that all three of them are incapable of resisting strong tsunamis and earthquakes. A decision to terminate the plant is also needed if Taiwan faces a similar disaster.

Two months have passed since the nuclear meltdown in Fukushima, and Taiwan Power has completed preliminary nuclear safety inspections at each of the island's nuclear power plants.

According to the inspection report submitted to the Atomic Energy Council, Taiwan's nuclear power plants lack the ability to cope with earthquakes and tsunamis.

Fukushima's nuclear meltdown occurred after the plant's power supply was cut off, and the report discussed at length the importance of uninterruptible power supplies to Taiwan's plants.

Over the course of the inspection, Taiwan Power conducted reviews of the plants' ability to resist tremors and tsunamis and emergency water and power supplies.

The inspectors also researched Fukushima's emergency measures.

Taiwan Power says that the island's plants can withstand earthquakes of a certain magnitude, but that tsunami prevention measures need to be improved at all three operating plants.
