THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
The local media had a field day yesterday mocking the self-styled prophet known as "Teacher Wang," who had earlier made unscientific predictions that a 14-magnitude killer quake would hit Taiwan on the morning of May 11th, cutting the island into two halves and taking more than one million lives. But, of course, none of those came true.
Wang and many of his followers moved into a makeshift community of steel container homes in Puli of Nantou County a day earlier, where he has already hoarded more than 44,000 kilograms of rice, enough to sustain an army battalion for one year.
But now his prophecy has been proved to be false, Wang may have to worry about how to handle the huge amount of food and materials he has accumulated.
And local authorities are now looking into the case to see if there is any illegal act invovled.
