PROPHETS, PROPHETS, EVERYWHERE
Shortly after Wang's apocalyptic predictions got the media's attention last month, the Central Weather Bureau was quick to warn the public about their absurdity.
In fact, according to a CWB official, Kuo Kai-wen, dealing with people who think they're able to forecast earthquakes has almost become part of his daily job.
Kuo told reporters that there are people who consider their bodies as natural detectors of forthcoming seismic events on the island. When they have a headache, they would take it as a sign of an impending earthquake in northern Taiwan, while a pain in the foot suggests that people in the south should expect a tremor.
On the other hand, there are those who opt for a more scientific approach, developing complicated math models to pinpoint the exact timing of future quakes.
But no matter how fancy or creative these methods are, Kuo observed that none of them has really worked.
