CLA VOWS TO INCREASE MINIMUM WAGE
With the pay raise plan for public employees approved by the Executive Yuan, the Council of Labor Affairs also expressed determination to further increase the minimum wage by more than 3%.
But the exact plan will not be confirmed until July, when a review meeting on the issue is scheduled to be held.
It has been confirmed that wages for teachers, civil servants and military personnel are going to increase by 3% . In response, labor groups are asking for basic labor pay raise to NT$22,115 from the current NT$17,880, which, the minister of CLA, Jennifer Wang, is going to try to achieve the challenge.
The basic wage was adjusted upwards of NT$600 this January, for which, Wang said that the adjustment was not enough and a meeting of basic wage review committee will be called in July to go over the issue again and hope the increase can be at least 3%.
Currently, domestic labor wage is low on the average with long working hours of 48 hours per week, on the average.
Some legislators are asking the CLA to reduce the working hours.
Wang pointed out that, to lower working hours would be a decision from many sectors to make together and wont happen soon.
However, on the topic of high tech company over-working their employees, Wang said a special investigation team is to investigate regularly of those companies to ensure the rights of the labor workers.
