Soon after the Japan earthquake, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has taken several measures to help overseas Taiwanese to leave Japan, including increasing flights and providing transportation subsidies. For those who want to stay in Japan, the local government has activated a loan guarantee mechanism to assist them with the reconstruction work.

Since Japan's nuclear radiation crisis is worsening, Ministry of Foreign Affairs is stepping up its effort to assist Taiwanese compatriots in Japan to leave the disaster-hit country.

However, some who returned from the Sendai area said the traffic in northeast region of Japan is disrupted and they even had to take a bus offered by the Chinese government and had several transfer rides to get to Tokyo.

While Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it's unable to offer door-to-door pick up service given the lack of manpower, the representative office in Japan would offer subsidies for those having to take a taxi to arrive the airport.

In the morning meeting to cope with the aftermath of Japan's earthquake, the Ma administration announced that it would help offer loans for rebuilding from 50,000 to 100,000 USD to those choosing to stay in Japan.

In the meeting, the government proposed 11 responding measures.

Besides a concrete subsidy program, the meeting concluded with decisions to implement disaster prevention drills in schools within the neighborhood of nuclear power plants.

The first round of drills in schools within the radius of five kilometers of the nuclear power plants will be held in May.
