SEX DISTRICT PLAN STRONGLY OPPOSED
In a move that paves the way for the legalization of sex work, the Executive Yuan announced this week that it will authorize local authorities to set up their own red-light districts for the sex industry.
But the decision was immediately panned by civic groups and the opposition party, who called it an irresponsible policy by the central government.
The Social order maintenance act of the Ministry of the interior has been updated, in the future, those sex workers will not be fined when they work in the designated red light district.
However, domestic anti sex exploitation alliance is against the measure.
According to the alliance, to legalize prostitution in certain district is only going to bring about other problems such as mafia, pornography, drugs and human trafficking, for which, the society is going to pay the price.
It says that the governments way of management is just on the prostitutes and not those who are paying for the services for it is against the notion that prostitution is a job and is asking for a referendum on the issue.
The alliance compared prostitution to using drug, saying that it is like making using drugs legal in certain areas of the society, while saying it is similar to resurgence of comforting women of the olden days.
According to the ministry of the interior, many details are still in discussion.
Currently, most cities and counties are all against setting up red light district while the Ministry of the interior is still going to try negotiating with local government.
