Some people, especially pregnant women, wear anti-radiation clothes to protect themselves from exposure to electromagnetic radiation from appliances or gadgets. However, consumer protection officials have found that out of the 12 products examined, 9 of them failed to serve its purpose, while 5 of them are mislabeled by the manufacturer.

Pregnant women at work may be surrounded by computers and worry about electromagnetic radiation.

In order to protect the unborn baby, many moms wear protective clothing.

But is it really effective?

The Ministry of Economic Affairs Bureau of Standards tested out equipment, tested these items and found significant differences in their reported use and actual use.

The Consumer Protection Commission in Taipei City, and through the Internet, purchased 12 items of commercially available electromagnetic protection clothing for pregnant women.

They found that 9 do not meet the standards set on their labels and five have electromagnetic shielding written on the label of 99%, but actually the real measure is between 92% to 97%, for a 2% to 7% gap.

One item cost 3,000 NT$, while others were discounted and it was hard to tell which type was more effective.

It was hoped that these items could be subject to more strenuous testing, even mandatory inspection program, and a minimum magnetic shielding rate to better protect consumers.
