A girl from Taoyuan was diagnosed with a rare eye disease that nearly blinded her at the tender age of 13, and reading has become a huge task for her ever since. However, her passion for learning plus an indomitable will has helped her to overcome all the difficulties along the way, and today she is already pursuing a postgraduate degree at the reputable National Tsing-hua University.

Chuang Jin-Chieh is a second-year student at the graduate program of computer science in National Tsing-Hua University.

When she was 12 years old, she was diagnosed of having a rare eye disease, which slowly took away her vision to the extent that she can only see anything 10 centimeters in front of her eyes.

Always at the top of her class, she was unable to accept the fact of losing her vision since her life was just about to start and she spent a long time blaming the situation.

But she didn't give up on herself.

By using auxiliary tools, she managed to get top percentile in the basic competence test and got into the computer science program in the university.

She reads books slowly, with a magnifier.

For a computer program that would take her classmates four hours to complete,it would take her more than 20 hours.

It is pretty tough for her to study computer science.

But her hardwork paid off as she is a constant award winner, thanks to the help from classmates and teachers.

For her persistance, she has achieved an amazing academic record and even published her autobiography in 2010, sharing with the public what she has gone through in the past decade.

Though she's exploring her future goal, the 24-year-old says she would definitely cherish her life and make the best out of it.
