NEW PNEUMOCOCCAL VACCINE AVAILABLE
Many infants still get afflicted with pneumococcus even after receiving the expensive vaccine. It turns out that the vaccine cannot protect the little ones from 19A serotype. But now, there's a new vaccine out in Taiwan, which can help prevent children from getting the disease as well as 12 other serotypes.
A pneumococcal vaccination can prevent infection by this disease though some people still manage to come down with it despite the vaccine.
Doctors say that this is because the vaccine does not protect against the 19A virus.
This can lead to life-threatening pneumonia, especially in children under 5 years old.
Currently, the 7-valent and 10-valent vaccine do not include 19A virus though the new 10 valent covers three different viruses including19A.
However, the Centers for Disease Control says that even with the upgraded vaccine, this does not guarantee 100% protection.
However, getting the vaccine as protection is not entirely effective as of April 11, 315 patients were confirmed with the disease with 19A accounting for 36%.
The CDC also warned that if one has an allergy or those susceptible to high fevers may not be suitable for such a vaccine as its best to inform your doctor beforehand.
