Flu cases have been on the rise for three consecutive weeks now. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the influenza recently claimed the life of another man, with the death toll now at 28. In addition, a third death has been reported, involving Legionnaires' disease. Here on CTS, we have more details.

Legionnaires' disease recently claimed its third victim of the year.

A 79-year old man in southern Taiwan that suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure was hospitalized in August with heart problems.

He eventually developed a high fever and pneumonia, and passed away on October 13th.

Because he had been hospitalized for over a month before his death, the Centers for Disease Control believes that he contracted Legionnaires' disease in the hospital.

The bacteria that causes the disease is often transmitted through air vents, water towers, toilet tanks, and other water systems, and early symptoms include fever, headaches, and diarrhea.

The incubation period lasts two to ten days, and the CDC is currently conducting a review of the hospital.

Doctors say that the bacteria results in mild symptoms in most people, but that those with weak immune systems or heart or lung conditions should be especially careful.

In related news, the flu recently claimed the life of a 69-year old man in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli area.

This was the 28th reported flu death since July, and the number of emergency room flu cases has risen for three consecutive weeks.

The CDC is urging everyone to be on high alert and get the flu shot as soon as possible.
