Striving for Gold
The 2010 Asian Games will officially open in Guangzhou this evening. And in a move to boost morale, the Chinese Taipei delegation held a special flag-raising ceremony at a local skating arena yesterday, vowing to turn in their best performance for the glory of Taiwan.
The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee's official flag rose slowly in Guangzhou as the organization's official song played.
Following the ceremony, the Chinese Taipei delegation of athletes and coaches turned their full attention to training and preparing for the Asian Games.
The team will be competing in 32 events and have medal hopes in at least ten, including baseball, taekwondo, skating, tennis, and billiards.
These young women are Chinese Taipei badminton players, and they have performed well in international and regional tournaments in recent years.
They hope to win medals in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories.
