While Taekwondo has traditionally been Taiwan's major source of medals in international sports events, victories seem less certain for the national team in the upcoming Asian Games, since the veterans have mostly retired while the young athletes are a little short on confidence. Currently the team is training hard to overcome the weakness.

Chinese Taipei's Tseng Pei-hua is currently ranked first in the women's under 57-kilogram category in the world taekwondo rankings.

She won the bronze medal at the last Asian Games, and is regarded as Chinese Taipei's only gold medal hope at this year's Guangzhou Asian Games.

Tseng acknowledges that she is under a great deal of pressure, but says that she will try her best. Hsu Chia-lin won the gold medal by one point at last year's East Asian Games.

He says that he knows what his weaknesses are, and that he is training to improve his overall technique.

Su Li-wen, who won Chinese Taipei's only gold medal at the last Asian Games, has since retired and is now coaching the national team.

She says that the Chinese Taipei team is determined and able to react quickly, but lacks aggression.

While the South Korean team is already saying that it will win every gold medal available at the Asian Games,

a more humble Chinese Taipei team is saying that it hopes to improve on its last Asian Games record of one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.
