No More Household Certificate?
The Minister of Interior, Chiang Yi-hua, has dismissed the recent media reports, indicating that the Household Certificate may be scratched in the near future. Chiang adds that further planning and evaluation would be needed before the practice, which has been around for 60 years, will be completely replaced.
Household certificate that documents the details of members of a family is an important official document.
But according to some print media's report, since it is far less used than household certificate transcript, which can be retrieved from household registration authorities' computer system, the Ministry of Interior plans to abolish the practice.
However, Minister of Interior Chiang Yi-hua denied the rumor on Wednesday, stressing this could cause further inconvenience if such certificate is abolished.
Chiang stressed, the ministry prefers to keep the practice as which is valid for life, unlike household certificate transcript.
The public seems to have extreme views on whether to keep the practice or not.
Even though household certificate is one of the required documents for marriage registration, school enrollment, update of household details, name change and other incidents, one can get the procedure done with the certificate as the household authorities could retrieve the details through computer.
Since the National Police Administration announces to not check on household occupants in 2009, household registration authorities admit there's a discrepancy between what's documented and the reality.
Therefore, Ministry of Interior says it will retain household certificate before it comes up with a better alternative.
