THE BLEND OF EAST AND WEST
Named as an extraordinary dancer by the New York Times, Taiwanese innovative choreographer Lin Kun-yang and his team are now touring around Asia. They will be landing in Taiwan for the first time to showcase their latest work of blending the moves of Tai Chi and Chinese calligraphy with modern dance.
This piece named "Air" combines Tai Chi with Western style modern dance, and fast music was put together by choreographer Lin Kun-yang, who's currently living in the U.S. His drew upon his childhood experiences of learning calligraphy along with martial arts, to combine Eastern and Western culture.
Lin, who was raised in a military dependence village in Hsinchu, originally studied engineering.
But, he possessed interests in industrial arts, calligraphy, and dancing.
He traveled to the U.S. in 1994 to study dance and slowly made a name for himself.

His self established dance company in New York, which combines Eastern and Western philosophies into modern dance, has slowly gain fame and attracted Western dancers. This time, Lin is leading his company on an Asian tour and is the first time they have been in Taiwan.
He hopes to show the audience his work of combining Eastern and Western culture in this modern dance piece.
