NUMBER OF SCHOOLCHILDREN GROWS IN CHUPEI, HSINCHU
The falling birthrates have led to a steady decline in the number of schoolchildren around Taiwan, but the trend seems to be completely reversed at the Chupei city of Hsinchu, where elementary schools are facing an explosive growth of students.
So what makes these schools so different from those in the rest of the island? Our next story explains.
The classroom designed for music classes is also used for other classes as there are not enough of classrooms.
In Chubei city, the Shi-hsin elementary school is seeing a full enrollment of first graders.
Another classroom for dance classes is soon to be renovated into a normal classroom in the end of August to accommodate students.
The school plans to have 54 classes this year but due to the rising number of newly enrolled students, it would need 66 classrooms in the next semester.
Right next to the Hsinchu Science Park, Chubei city is having a rapid population growth given the development in towns and cities near the High Speed Rail Station.
Besides the Shi-hsin elementary school, there are five more schools in the neighboring areas that are having an expansion project in August to accommmodate the rising number of new students.
These schools can only hope the construction progress would be timely to alleviate the problem of student overload.
