Hsinchu, the Marriage City
Hsinchu City tops all other cities throughout Taiwan, and it is currently holding on to the number one
what is making more couples saying "I dos" in that part of town? Greater job opportunities, and a fatter check when they have babies.
Wendy was from Chiayi and moved to Hsinchu City with her boyfriend to open her own business and now is thinking about living in Hsinchu permanently.
Hsinchu City offers great job opportunities while its government offers child subsidies to encourage couple to give birth.
With the first child, the couple would get 15,000 NT dollars, and with the second, they would get 20,000 NT dollars.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, during the first ten months of this year, Hsinchu City saw 2,452 couples getting married out of around 112,000 couples in Taiwan,
which ranks Hsinchu the city with the highest marriage rate of one marriage every 8 days and 5.94 couples per 1,000 people.
Last year, there was a newborn every 15 days in Hsinchu city.
Even though Taipei and Miaoli also offers incentives for newborns, seems like Hsinchu needs to start thinking about improving its education environment, culture and public constructions to stay competitive.
