Infertility Subsidies
The Ministry of Interior recently formed a plan to offer a new subsidy in order to help couples suffering from infertility.
Potentially ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 NTD per year, the new subsidy is expected to be an effecitve step toward reversing declining birth rates.
The baby's cuteness makes everyone happy. Many couples can't have babies because of infertility.
According to the Interiror Ministry's statistics, over 6,000 couples can't have babies each year.
Test tube babies cost about NTD 120,000, while artificial insemination costs NTD 20,000 to NTD 30,000.
These aren't small costs.
The Interior Ministry has drafted a program to target infertility to help combat declining birth rates.
There are strategies the program calls for. Each couple can receive NTD 50,000 or NTD 150,000 per year.
The entire program will cost NTD 600 million or NTD 2.2 billion per year. If the program is enacted, 2000 more babies will be added each year. But, this program is still being discussed.
Women's rights groups are worried and said the government should be careful and must consider a couple's situation, financial income, and age. Or else the subsidies might be misused.
Modern Women's Foundation said the subsidies might have the opposite effect, where women will get older before they get married.
Additionally, the government should also consider child care and education. If these programs aren't in place, the country may not be able to produce well rounded citizens.
