Attention Crossing Streets
According to statistics offered by the Taipei City Department of Transportation, around 300 students each year are involved in traffic accidents. And half of these occurred when students were crossing streets!
Time to go to school is here with teachers and volunteers helping direct traffic. Many are afraid of accidentally being struck by a car.
According to the Taipei City Department of Transportation statistics, every year about 300 students are involved in traffic accidents, of which, 52% of which are simply crossing the road.
The time to look out for accidents is between 4 to 7 pm which is a high-risk period as children under the age of 12 lack crisis response capabilities.
Just stopping at a red light stop and crossing when it is green is not enough for children to learn.
Social welfare organizations and parents hope that aside from improvements in hardware, teachers can implement other traffic education to help reduce child accidents. Taipei City's Department of Transportation said that in the past 5 years, improvements to traffic facilities around schools have made students safer.
In addition to the safety of children crossing the road, it says that implementing a plan such as taking 3 steps backwards at a red light, including looking both ways before crossing is a way for children safely and happily cross the road.
