Business Is the Name of the Game
The Taipei City Hall Bus Station was officially launched this week. Incorporating restaurants, a department store and a hotel, the new multifunctional traffic hub is estimated to attract over 100,000 visitors per day, and generate up to 5 billion NT dollars' worth of business opportunities a year.
The Taipei city Hall bus terminal attracted over 10,000 people just on its first day of operation for it is a multi-functional facility of transportation, food service and shopping all together.
The terminal combined services from MRT, long-haul buses, department stores and 5 star hotel at a most popular street corner.
The underground tunnel links the Taipei 101 building, Taipei city hall and the World Trade Center.
The expected people visiting the terminal would be 100,000 people daily with the annual expected business earning potential at NT$5 billion.
Scholars pointed out that, the new terminal is much smaller when compared with other bus terminals in foreign countries for the ground level should not even have shops; the public has to sacrifice the comfortable space all because the related governmental agency is trying to make more money by renting out spaces to shops.
The department store at the terminal is scheduled to open in October; the location would definitely threaten other sales volume of other eastern Taipei city department stores.
