Marking the 100th birthday of the late legendary puppet master Lee Tien-lu and his influences in the world of glove puppetry, a memorial exhibition is being held at Yongle market on the Dihua street in Taipei City.
Let's go check out the event that is full of entertainment, including showcases by the Wan Jan puppet troupe.
A memorial exhibition is being held at Yongle market in Taipei City, as part of celebration of the would-have-been 100th birthday of puppet master Lee Tien-lu.
His eldest son Chen Shi-huang says he can't forget how his father performed.
Adopting an unusual apprentice system, Lee gave all his best in teaching students, who came from different places.
For example, a former student Jean-Luc Penso was captivated seeing Taiwanese puppet theater for the first time at 18 and he's now the founder of the Theatre du Petit Miroir in Paris.
Using the techniques learned from Mr. Lee, Jean-Luc Penso created a form of puppetry that combines Taiwanese and French flavors.
Born in 1910, Lee began his life on stage and established his own troupe "Yi Wan Jan" in 1931.
After he passed away in 1998, his students have carried on his legacy.
In this exhibition, ancient stages of puppet show and some puppets made by Lee are displayed, showing how the legendary artist thrived to revive the traditional performing art.
